PR electronics are proud to bring the 3186 2-wire transmitter isolator to the market.

3186 is a loop powered device which offers isolation and 1:1 conversion of a 4…20 mA signal from a 2-wire transmitter mounted in the field. The unit is output loop powered meaning that it can be powered via an auxiliary 2-wire supply coming from a PLC or a DCS system – and this is in a very wide supply range between 6 and 35 VDC. The voltage drop across the unit is less than 2.5 V. 3186 offers a very accurate transmission accuracy which is typically better than 0.05% in the measuring range from 3.8 to 20.5 mA. As the functional range lies between 3.5...23 mA the device is NAMUR NE43 compliant meaning that “outside range” and “sensor error” signals will be transferred and repeated without any problem.

The 3186 is designed to provide a fast analogue signal transmission as well as a high isolation voltage (2.5 kVAC) hence providing surge suppression and protecting control systems from transients and noise in addition to eliminating ground loops and measuring floating signals.

Recently we introduced the input loop powered unit 3185. This unit is also a loop powered isolator for current signals in the range 0…23 mA and a very competitive choice in terms of both price and technology for galvanic isolation of current signals. The 3185 is powered by the analogue input current and offers a very low start up current (< 10 uA) meaning that it can be used for isolation of signals starting from “0” - as e.g. 0...5 mA or 0...20 mA process signals do.

Both isolators feature:

  • 1 or 2 channels in 6 mm slimline housing
  • 1:1 signal transfer and NAMUR NE43 compliance
  • Excellent accuracy / < 0.05…0.1%
  • Fast response time / < 5 msec
  • Low drop voltage
  • High isolation 2.5 kVAC
  • Wide specification range -25…+70°C
  • Installation possible in Safe area or in Ex zone 2 – Cl. 1 div. 2 environment
  • Approved for Marine applications

The 3185 and 3186 transmitters are excellent solutions for isolation applications, where there is no access to an external power source and where you want reliable and safe signal isolation.
